There are many people who have professional lives that are so demanding that they do not have the time or opportunity to maintain a home, a yard, and all that entails. These people buy condominiums because they have the convenience of an apartment building, with maintenance, security, and no yard work.
A lot of the people who buy these condominiums are under the false assumption that they do not need to have insurance coverage because the association has condo insurance covering their dwelling. The coverage your owners association has covers the unit and the building that houses the unit, it does not cover any of your personal property that you have inside the nit. If the building is destroyed by fire or mother- nature you will lose any of your personal belongings that are damaged, with no compensation.
Another thing you need to make note of is the fact that the policy your association has stops at the exterior walls of your unit. You are responsible for the interior walls, all faucets, showers, sinks, cabinetry, and lighting fixtures. If you have a personal policy covering the interior of your unit then it would cover your personal property, as well as the interior aspects of your unit like the walls, the fixtures, and the necessary elements like tubs and showers.
Most policies will cover your unit in case of fire, or of windstorm damage, of smoke damage from another unit being on fire, of vandalism done to your unit, of theft that takes place inside your unit, and any accidental water discharge that damages your unit interior or personal property. Having condo insurance can create peace of mind that will keep you resting easy when you have to be away, secure in the knowledge you are protected.
